Research activities

Kiruba is a critical legal scholar whose research lies in caste and law, with a focus on legal institutions, access to justice, and justice delivery. She currently leads legal research with聽, a UK-based collective, examining the designation of India as a 'safe country' and the institutional and legal challenges faced by Indian asylum seekers.

Biography

Dr Kiruba Munusamy is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the School of Law and Social Sciences, Middlesex University London, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council for the project聽鈥�鈥�. She holds a doctoral degree in Law from Middlesex University London for her thesis entitled聽鈥�鈥�,聽where she critically examined the judicial responses of the Supreme Court of India in the adjudication of caste-based violence. She is also a human rights lawyer who practised in the Supreme Court of India from 2014 to 2020 and in the High Court of Madras from 2008 to 2014. She has been recognised with 'Change Maker 2025' and 'Social Impact-Achiever' Awards for her grassroots activism addressing caste-based discrimination and violence, intersection of caste and gender, right to live with dignity, freedom of speech and expression, abolition of death penalty and queer rights.
