Digital degree apprenticeships

A digital technology apprenticeship

Develop new products and services for your business and increase productivity with a tailored apprenticeship programme focused on creating digital and technology solutions

We have a growing record of working in the digital sector. Our work includes co-design, research, and knowledge transfer with a wide range of organisations.

Our digital degree apprenticeship programmes respond to industry needs and the growing demand for digital skills.

For example, The London Local Skills Improvement Plan (2023) states:

‘Employer demand for digital skills, is particularly high in London. According to a 2021 survey conducted by the LCCI, upskilling digital skills is the main priority for workforce development. A recent survey by the Learning & Work Institute found over half (56%) of respondents felt that their business would need more advanced digital skills over the next two to five years.’

In 2020, the Digital Sector contributed £151 billion to the UK economy. It accounted for 9% of the national workforce.

In 2022, almost 1.9 million people worked in the digital sector. By 2025, the UK Government expected a further 678,000 jobs requiring digital skills to be created.

London was expected to have the highest number of these jobs, across more than 261,000 workplaces.

Research by the Local Government Association identified London as a driver of demand for digital skills:

  • Tech employment in London increased by almost double the rate for England as a whole (40 per cent versus 23 per cent)” (LGA, 2021). The research also identified continued high growth in demand for digital skills in London
  • London already had 321,000 tech specialists, representing 24% of the total in England. This number was expected to grow by about 60%, or 193,000 people, between 2020 and 2050. This would bring the total to more than half a million, at 514,000 (LGA, 2021)
  • The number of tech specialists in England was expected to increase by about 84% between 2020 and 2050. This would represent growth from about 1.4 million to 2.5 million. Over the same period, the wider workforce was expected to grow by about 11%.

Meeting employer needs

Our digital degree apprenticeship programmes have been designed to meet this demand from employers.

We have actively sought employers’ views on how we can better meet their needs. Their feedback has informed the development and delivery of our programmes.
